First Aid Kits
BS 8599
On the 30th June 2011 the British Standards Institute published a new standard, BS8599-1:2011 Workplace First Aid Kits.
This is a welcome move for both the first aid industry as it clearly establishes a standard for workplace first aid provision and the contents of the new kits are more appropriately aligned with today’s workplace risks and first aid needs.
The standard increases the quantities of regularly used items such as wipes, plasters and gloves and reduces the quantity of the less commonly used items. It also puts in place other essential items which were not commonly included in first aid kits such as resuscitation face shields, foil blankets, burns dressings and shears.
