Solar System Scene Setters - Developed by Hope

Our Solar System Scene Setters kit has been developed by our in-house curriculum experts as a primary school resource for teaching the basics of the Solar System relating to the Key Stage 2 curriculum.

The kit consists of a set of 17 wooden paddles which show the planets and various other objects associated with the Solar System along with a large, high quality galaxy backdrop depicting the Milky Way, all neatly stored in a Hope branded bag.  A set of information cards is also included to help with lesson plans and activity guidance.

The backdrop has holes so that it can be hung at the front of the classroom and students can use the paddles to model the Solar System in front of it to give an 'in space' feel to the activities.

The paddles are made of wood and are brightly printed with an image on one side, and the name of the item on the back.  The chunky handles make them easy for small hands to hold.

The pack contains one each of the following paddles:

• NASA rocket
• Satellite
• Space Junk

Activities the kit can be used for include:

• Modelling the Solar System and the order of the planets
• Show movements of the Earth and other planets relative to the Sun in the solar system
• Describing the movement of the Moon relative to the Earth
• Demonstrating that seasons on the Earth are dependant ont he Earths orbit of the Sun.
• Familiarise students with the sizes of the planets (planet paddles are not to scale but have been made to reflect the sizes, actual sizes are identified on the activity cards).
• Introducing students to some of the man-made objects that can be found in space.
