White St Thomas Clay Original is a versatile clay body with excellent handling characteristics and good resilience, making it suitable for a wide range of ceramic techniques. Easy to work and reliable during forming, it is equally suited to wheel throwing, slabbing, coiling and general hand-building projects.
The clay performs particularly well when creating larger functional forms such as bread crocks, storage vessels and substantial pots, while remaining versatile enough for smaller domestic and decorative pieces. It develops an attractive fired colour under both oxidation and reduction firing conditions, providing flexibility for different ceramic approaches.
With a firing range of 1160°C to 1300°C, the clay can be used for both earthenware and stoneware applications, making it a practical choice for schools, colleges and studio environments where a variety of firing outcomes may be required.
Supplied in a 12.5kg bag.
Please note: while this clay can be fired to stoneware temperatures, not all clay bodies are fully impervious to water. For vessels intended to hold liquids or withstand outdoor conditions, a suitable glaze should be applied and fired correctly to help reduce water absorption and improve durability.
