Icon Original Clay is a white-firing stoneware clay formulated with a Molochite addition to provide a medium-smooth texture combined with excellent strength and resilience. Its balanced working properties make it suitable for both wheel throwing and hand-building, allowing ceramicists to create everything from delicate vessels to larger sculptural forms.
The clay performs well in oxidation and reduction firings and is also suitable for salt glazing, making it a versatile choice for a wide range of ceramic techniques. Its smooth surface texture provides an excellent base for decorative treatments, glazing and detailed finishing work.
Firing between 1200°C and 1300°C, it is designed for stoneware applications and develops strength and durability when fired correctly. Indicative total contraction is approximately 10% at 1100°C and 12% at 1200°C.
Supplied in a 12.5kg bag, making it suitable for schools, colleges and professional studio environments.
Please note: while this clay is suitable for stoneware firing, not all clay bodies are fully impervious to water. For vessels intended to hold liquids or withstand outdoor conditions, a suitable glaze should be applied and fired correctly to help reduce water absorption and improve durability.
